The Hollowborn are not merciful.” Duncan’s eyes flickered toward the window, where the outline of the mine loomed in the distance. “I usually kill them myself,” he said, his tone matter-of-fact, as though describing routine labor. “Some nights, I don’t see them escape the shaft.”
